Q: You campaigned on the idea of no new taxes. Do you feel that you broke that promise? Some are accusing you of doing that. Read more
Rest In Peace Congresswoman Tubbs-Jones
Stephanie Tubbs-Jones was a fighter. She was a great advocate for Ohio, her district, and the rights of women and minorities. She was great on TV fighting the Rs and for many became the national face of the side of the righteous during Ohio’s presidential election issues. She’ll be missed.

- Illegal signs in right of way – Columbus Dispatch
Finally, someone may be doing something about these eyesores. My pet peeve is these signs that look like your neighbor hand-lettered, but when you call the number to inquire about the hot tub or whatever it’s a business. There’s enough visual pollution out there, these things are a nuisance. I ask myself, what would Edward Abbey do? He’d take ‘em or knock ‘em down. If our cities are not going to keep public property clean, we should all start destroying these things. Maybe the business community will get the idea we don’t want this ridiculous advertising.

- City wild about Obama, Strickland – Lancaster Eagle Gazette
The above link is the headline taken from the Gazette. It cracked me up because Lancaster is one of those areas that reflexively votes Republican. It’s Central Ohio’s little slice of Orange County. Getting 100 Dems out down there is a good thing. Not sure if that city is ‘wild’ about Obama, but if the donkeys keep working hard and staying on message we may win some extra hearts and minds this year.
- Op-Ed, Dennis Willard: Governor’s 12-city tour seems sincere – Akron Beacon Journal
Seems?! Apparently the ABJ didn’t read my post on these education forums. You can here. Governor Strickland is doing something we’re apparently not used to as Americans in the Bush/Cheney era, he’s reaching out to his constituents.
- Op-Ed, Bertram DeSouza: Slow down rush to settle AG harassment cases – Youngstown Vindicator
Holy Crikey. DeSouza unloads on the Troubled Trio (Dann, Jennings, Gutierrez) by calling them “pond scum” and “pus-filled boils on this regions backside.” He basically brands Jenn Urban a gold digger. The essential point is that the next attorney general should determine how many of our tax dollars go down the drain in settlements to the alleged victims of sexual harassment under the Dann regime. He may have something there.

Thursday evening - Drudge, more on Jesse Jackson, Rove, Fannie/Freddie bailout?
Filed under: Barack Obama, Clips, Journalism, Presidential Campaign 2008, U.S. Economy
- Matt Drudge Rules the (Political) World - Chris Cillizza, Washington Post
There’s no denying the “power of Drudge” on network bookers and tv news programming. I think it’s more a comment on the superficial nature of TV news than Drudge’s power. Drudge has a great product. For those in the news business or news junkies, it’s a shortcut. Some of the links on this blog are inspired by the Drudge Report because I’ve found he follows energy and financial news in a way that interests me.
As for the Jesse Jackson thing - that didn’t need Drudge. When a guy who should be enjoying the latter half of his life as an icon of the Civil Rights movement shows the world his ass once again, that’s news.
I talked today to an African American who is involved in civil rights and equal opportunity issues. He is of the generation that came after Rev. King and Jesse Jackson. He honors their struggle, but he told me too many of those guys are fighting and re-fighting those struggles and have not identified and changed with the times. They’re not in tune with today’s struggle.
Regardless of Drudge, this would have driven a day’s worth of news. We’re witnessing a generational change in our own civil rights and social justice community - and Jesse Jackson’s sour grapes that the first black president will not be him.
- Rove ignores subpoena, refuses to testify on Hill - Associated Press
What’s he got to hide?
