I take issue with the previous blogger on one point. The president did not declare victory (that word is not mentioned, even once), or even say whether our troops had succeeded in the mission for which they were sent to Iraq. In the last paragraph he said, "But thanks to the sacrifices of those who have served, we have forged hard-earned progress..." Hard earned progress is not the stuff of victory parades. Yet, a victory parade they most certainly have earned. Witness:
• A brutal dictator, along with his murderous regime, was deposed
• The violence caused by the power vacuum has been significantly reduced, with many of the former antagonists having entered the political arena
• The nascent Iraqi political system, established through free elections by the people of Iraq, is beginning to work
• Iraqi security forces are taking ever greater responsibility for the nation’s security
• Foreign nations are beginning to establish normal relations with Iraq

It's time that the left unlinks the former president with the war in Iraq, so we can begin to see with clarity the extraordinary success we have achieved there, at the incredible personal cost of our magnifiscent troops!

I believe this may well be the finest and most important speech Candidate or President Obama has ever delivered. I am extremly saddend to know that the Mass Media outlets both cable and network, only presented soundbites from this important message. More importantly, the soundbites were presented out of context of the entire message which led to many unjustified reactions on the part of the left, that viewed Obama's declaration on victory, or atleast mission accomplished to the troops was somehow, a vindication of the Bush administration and the policies that put us in Iraq in the first place. President Obama's beautifully crafted message delivered at Camp Lejuene was an important recognition of the tremendous sacrafices born by the men and women who have fought this illconcieved war. For them and the nation it is critical to understand the difference between a changed cause and a defeated army. The men and women of our military did not create the policy that put them in Iraq, They developed the stratagy and implemented the plans. They have performed their jobs for the most part with honor and heroic dignity. It is fair and right then that President Obama beclare victory and plan our withdrawl without in any way being seen as endorsing the misguided policy that cost our nation so dearly.
