[...] From sports to the bafflingly stupid, we arrive at an illogical conclusion today: the Universal National Service Act, a ridiculous bill that keeps popping up because Charlie Rangel (D-NY) won’t let it go. He’s introduced it three times since 2003 because he’s convinced himself that the military needs a draft. What’s scary is that he’s found a cabal of supporters throughout the years for this, all of whom have Ds after their names: Sen. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut, Jack “my constituents are all stupid racists; err, I really meant rednecks” Murtha of PA, Yvette Clark also from NY, and James McDermott from West bygawd Virginia. Yet…the GOP gets the blame for the bill. Either the media elites writing articles of attack on the Republicans are illiterate, or there’s an agenda to use fear as a weapon against voters. Obviously, it’s the latter. The bill would not allow for college enrollment to be considered an exemption and it proposed that individuals—male and female—self-describe their talents so the government can best be able to select who it wants to force to do its bidding: ie, preserving and expanding the American Empire. President Obama had this to say in September 2008 on the subject: But it’s also important that a president speaks to military service as an obligation not just of some, but of many. You know, I traveled, obviously, a lot over the last nineteen months. And if you go to small towns, throughout the Midwest or the Southwest or the South, every town has tons of young people who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. That’s not always the case in other parts of the country, in more urban centers. And I think it’s important for the president to say, this is an important obligation. If we are going into war, then all of us go, not just some. (Source) [...]
