The American President Is Among Us
Filed under: Barack Obama, Democratic National Convention, Presidential Campaign 2008
Senator Barack Obama could be what Hollywood has been selling us in movies and on television for the past 15 or 20 years. Tonight, I’ve finally seen a man deliver a speech that inspires with ideas not idealogy, is tough with clever, smart wit – not blunt partisanship – and it wasn’t from the set of the West Wing or from a movie screen. Barack Obama is ready to lead. Barack Obama has the temperament to be a decider on behalf of the many not just the few.
If this man becomes President and there is not real change in Washington, real change in our national priorities, real change in the ways in which we interact with the rest of the world – and the manner in which the world sees us – I will know disappointment and disillusion – not just cynicism and pessimism.
Barack Obama told a story tonight. He laid out a strategy for hope. He defined change.

Can’t wait to see how much it will cost me and how little input I’ll get for my money.
Your comment is as vapid as Obama’s speech.
What’s really frustrating to me is that his wonderful words are simply not matched by any wonderful deeds. The current controversy over Ayers, for example. It has become quite clear that Obama’s relationship with Ayers is more than merely marginal. What else in Obama’s past has not yet come to light – deeds that would diminish those wonderful words?
Obama has consistently shown the type of character and judgment needed to be president.
In the Illinois State Senate, this meant working with both Democrats and Republicans to help working families get ahead by creating programs like the state Earned Income Tax Credit, which in three years provided over $100 million in tax cuts to families across the state. He also pushed through an expansion of early childhood education, and after a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.
In the U.S. Senate, he has focused on tackling the challenges of a globalized, 21st century world with fresh thinking and a politics that no longer settles for the lowest common denominator. His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent. He has also been the lead voice in championing ethics reform that would root out Jack Abramoff-style corruption in Congress.
As a member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan. Recognizing the terrorist threat posed by weapons of mass destruction, he traveled to Russia with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world. And knowing the threat we face to our economy and our security from America’s addiction to oil, he’s working to bring auto companies, unions, farmers, businesses and politicians of both parties together to promote the greater use of alternative fuels and higher fuel standards in our cars. “
If you do research, just a little bit of research you will be able to find information on what Barack Obama has done for this country. You will see his words are indeed supported by deeds..even inspired by deed.
1. He said no to Iraq war. When it was a popular war, he said no and told America why. We weren’t fighting the terrorits who fought us like most of America believed.
2. He called for a timetable that Bush Administration called irresponsible and McCain still disagrees with but that the Iraqi people have also demanded and now 6 years later, a timetable is being reached.
3. When asked, he said he would sit down and talk with leaders of Iran and other hostile nations because in order to bridge gaps, we must be willing to reach out diplomatically and willing to stand up to leaders. Now in the last 6 months of his presidency, Bush has sent his diplomats to far corners of the globe to talk to his hostile enemies in search for a positive conclusion to his leadership in the halls of history.
4. He worked to help struggling parents move from welfare to jobs and increased health care for 150,000 people in IL.
5. He taught constitutional law at a prestigious American University and in his first opportunity in Washington hit the ground running to fight for and pass the biggest ethic reform bill in Washington.
6. See the previous post…Frank did a bit of research too.
7. He has written a book that outlines his entire economic policy, when it is released the second week of September go check it out at a library. You will get answers to your questions there, it would be too tedius to outline here.
8. He believes in you and me and our ability to stand up and be counted and make a difference in our own lives. American government is not a dictatorship and we do have a say. So educate yourself and take a stand. Don’t vote in ignorance, this election can easily be won if we just listen and imagine who will make the change we so desperately need.
